Thanks alot Ryan - I'm a big George Herriman fan. I like the rubber hose studies you put up on your blog.

Have you noticed that the best comics artists ( even today ) have the same influences?

George Herriman. Loved by Jim Borgman ( ZITS ), Berke Brethed ( OPUS ) and Bill Watterson ( CALVIN AND HOBBES ). Borgman and Watterson list each other as influences.

Jeff McNelly ( SHOE ) influenced Mike Peters ( MOTHER GOOSE AND GRIMM ) who influenced me personally, and was influenced, as was Jeff, by Preston Blair.

All of them were influenced by Charles Schulz ( PEANUTS ) who worked with Bill Melendez, who worked with and around Preston, but more notably Bob Clampett and Rod Scribner's assistant. Schulz has said he was influenced by George Lichty ( sp? ) who was the direct influence for Rod's later wild style for Clampett.

And just like animation today and this Sunday's comics page: there's a few spots of real talent that due to their success can get some space to draw whatever they want, but mainly it's talking heads smashed into a box or format.

I'm sorry, I get kinda pissy about the comics page today. But yeah, POGO rocks.

- trevor.

PS: Eshniner: So you're name's Ryan, huh? Hey Rye!
